A kitchen-and-lifestyle-product company, Ozeri Corporation creates replacements for common products that use fewer natural resources without sacrificing performance. Ozeri Corporation’s lithium battery-powered wine bottle opener, utilizing the same battery technology as smartphones, offers reliability and longevity, especially in restaurant settings.
To improve pre-existing lithium-ion batteries, researchers and private companies experiment with increasing their safety. One example is replacing the liquid electrolytes between the cathode and anode with a thin, solid material that also decreases a battery's flammability. Another involves integrating a temperature-sensitive material, triphenyl phosphate, into the plastic during manufacturing, so if the battery catches fire, the fibers activate and put the fire out. Other advances may help increase the time between charges and lessen environmental impact. Some are looking into replacing the graphite anode with silicon microparticles and carbon nanotubes. A lithium-sulfur battery also may result in a smartphone with a five-day use time between charges instead of one.
